Not much is going on here either, but I have no complaints about it--I like things calm and drama-free.
I'm taking my Mom up to Hearst's Castle this weekend--she has never been so it should be fun. The lack of a State budget in California made for an interesting summer with my husband's business (we are funded by the State). How a government can not pay providers of healthcare for three months is beyond me... In October, we're going on a cruise which will be fun. After a stressful summer for hubby, the man needs a vacation--myself, I'm looking forward to spending time with him in away from the stresses of his job. My work is going well so no complaints there. In between everything, I've been more involved with our church in helping feed the homeless in our County. For Thanksgiving, our church is planning to have a big dinner for anyone in the city who wishes to come. Currently, I'm recruiting people who want to help serve dinner and donate turkeys for the festivities... Glad to hear things are going well with you ladies. |

The memorial was Saturday. It was sad, ironic, weird and even funny at times. We got home from the airport at MN Friday, we had to pick up my son and his
girlfriend. We were on the road at 5am headed for the memorial. It was a glorious day and most of the people were boarded on the boat by the time we got there.
Maybe 30. It was nice to see the cousins.
Calm , clear waters as we chugged out. Within sight of land we stopped and a minister said a few words. My sister-in-law stood and said she had invited my brother-in-law to read few scriptures. (I thought, here we go! Give the guy who babbles the mic). Live and learn. Now, I was pretty tired so it struck me funny. (I did not laugh). He went on and on and on never reading any scripture. He said he planned to but decided instead to talk about his mothers last days. He said that "his mothers hard heart softened in the end". He said she asked him why she should thank God when she had made all the sacrifices and worked so hard? He went on and on babbling and saying disjointed things for about 15 minutes. People just started looking down and squirming, I looked sideways at he the minister to read his face. FINALLY, my sister in law stood and said, 'DID YOU HAVE THAT SCRIPTURE YOU WANTED TO READ?" She was embarrassed not only in the stammering disjointed delivery but more the disturbing content. This was his cue to shut up. He missed this cue. He went on to talk about his mothers horrible upbringing. (Her brothers were sitting right there). So....my sister-in-law finally said, well, let's give everyone else a chance to speak if they would like. Relatives spoke right up as if inan attempt to erase what he said. They scattered the ashes and we headed ashore to the reception. Soup to nuts. It was a nice afternoon with relatives we don't see much so it was easy to avoid any unpleasantries. We went to the motel in the late afternoon and headed home the next day. It was OK and we are happy to have it behind us. We have already had a freeze here and the trees are turning fast. The cider presses are busy, everything we eat this time of year has apples in it. Applesauce, apple crisp, cider donuts, apple pie. It was a fast rainy summer. Things are slowing down, including work. It feels good to get my house in order before the snow flies. I'm taking at least one small hike in the woods every morning while I can. This is my annual rearrange the furniture time. I started taking acai, and it really boosts my metabolism. I hope it isn't some derivative of cocaine or aphedra. I feel so energetic. Maybe it's just having this stress behind me. |
