How cool!
I left you a comment on it--hopefully you'll get it... It's hard to believe Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away--it doesn't feel like the Holidays at all over here. The weather may have something to do with though--today it's 89 degrees without a cloud in the sky--it NEVER gets that warm here... What are your plans for Thanksgiving Sandy? We're invited to my brothers for a dinner on Friday because everyone is coming from so far away--it makes it easier for everyone to travel on Friday and have Saturday off rather then worry about going back to work the next day. On the actual day of Thanksgiving, our church is putting on a dinner for the homeless of the county and hubby and I are going to work a shift and serve up meals...we were supposed to have dinner with friends later in the evening, but the wife in the couple is in the hospital right now so I doubt they'll be up to doing much--I'm not even sure she'll be out of the hospital by then at this rate... The story about the wife is for another post I'll try to write later today. I wrote a long post yesterday about it, but when I went to post it, it disappeared... |

I'm sorry to hear about your friend, C.
It was 34F and snowing here today! Me and my mom will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner at my house again this year. I won a Butterball turkey through a drawing, so that will be part of our dinner. It tickles me when I win something, even if it's just a turkey. |

Wow. Snow! See, THAT would help getting into the Holiday spirit!
Congrats on the turkey win--how fun! Thanks for the thoughts about my friend, but it appears as of this last hour things are different (yes, I'm confused about it too). Long story short: Friend had stage three colon cancer, went through treatment, scans and blood work came back clean, she had surgery to reattach everything, they told her they found more cancer during the surgery, kept her in the hospital until pathology came back and they could decide on course of treatment and as of an hour ago they've concluded she DOESN'T have any more cancer... We're THRILLED she's going to be okay, but geez, can you imagine what that poor woman's psyche has been through the last four days?! The post I was going to make really doesn't apply now because she's going to be okay, but wow! If I was in her position, I'd have a hard time believing anything my doctors told me at this point... The important thing is she's okay though. Sorry for the tangent... I'd like to go back to talk of turkeys, snowflakes and dancing elves now... |

That's great news about your friend! It sounds like she's really been through it. Hopefully the doctors do know what they are talking about this time.
Will she be out of the hospital soon? |

I got your comment Christina.....thanks
Dont you love when your long posts get lost? I always tell myself that I am going to write one of those on Notepad first...but I never do Sorry about your friend being in the hospital...hope she is doing better soon. You are very sweet to spend part of your Thanksgiving giving to others. Ron and I do Thanksgiving at his son's house....he has the biggest home of all his children. LOTS of people and kids AND food, of course. Everyone makes something so that Ron's DIL doesnt have to do all the cooking. I am awaiting instructions as to what they want me to bring this year, but I already have plans to take a family friendly punch along made from white cranberry juice and apple cider....very Thanksgivingy |

If I type out a long post, I copy the post before submitting. I've lost too many posts.

The punch sounds tasty Sandy--is there an adult version to it?
Side note: it's 87 degrees right now and sunny...still not even approaching a Thanksgiving feel. I'm thinking my brother should be hosting a bbq instead of a turkey dinner at this rate (it's even warmer where he lives). Here is a link to our local webcam. We were out at a restaurant on the pier yesterday morning having breakfast--we had shorts, tee shirts and flip flops on in the middle of November. Crazy! |

Sorry to go back to the subject of my friend, but she just called me and was crying. She told me she has no idea if she has cancer or not. Her husband is
telling her she is fine (which is what he told us), but she says she seems to remember her doctor telling her something different. She has a poor recollection
of what her doctor said because she was on morphine at the time. She has an appointment tomorrow with her oncologist, but this poor woman has been living for
eight days without knowing what the heck is going on with her body. They removed her ovaries during surgery because they found a growth, but didn't remove
her uterus--she doesn't understand why. She had so many questions. I urged her to call her oncologist and speak with him directly and she said she would do
so and we hung up. I feel terrible for her. I don't understand why no one has given this woman a direct answer.

Well, our friend called tonight and wanted to have dinner with my husband and I after her Doctor's appt....she told us she has stage IV colon cancer...
She wanted to hang out until late but at one point had to go to the ladies room and then couldnt come out--she called her husband on her cell to help her... so sad. |

My friend went to have tests which revealed breast cancer. She had ignored some symptoms because she runs a thriving business. She had a radical mastectomy.
She came home with drains in place and a big bulky dressing. Her doc said he would call her with the pathology report in one week. She endured the surgery and
said that she could recover much better when she got the results of the pathology. She called me after the week had passed and her phone calls weren't
reurned from the doctors office.
Her doctor has had the tests rerun to confirm the findings. She would have to have chemo as the results revealed they 'had not gotten it all". I believe she had 18 rounds of chemo since. She is running around now running her business with a little bald head. Her situation forced me to update my outdated information and I was astonished at the amazing success stories. I can't recommend Lance Armstrongs book highly enough. He had testicular cancer that had metasitsized to his brain and he is cured. That means the cancer had to travel from him testicles to his brain and everything inbetween. People assume that the camp I work at in the summer has a high number of cancer campers. We get a group from Italy and then the rest are random, few and far between. We primarily have HIV, sickle call and hemophelia. I did just work a weekend at camp for a group called Bravehearts. Women who are in some part of their breast cancer recovery or treatment. These woman had a blast and offered such support to each other. I always say that chemo kills you so you can be born again. The most incredible people emerge afterward. It might be a good thing for someone to attend her appt with her as two heads are more likely to hear whats being said accurately. I don't think you should be that person Christina, unless you can face that time in your own life as if it's over, because it is. We are all just one lab test and one phone call from having our world rocked. Knowledge and support combat fear best. I am so excited about Obamas priority of having stem cell research on the front burner. I don't think most people realize what diseases will become history. It is devasting news and gives one a real sense of self. I can't think of anyone who has a better story to tell than you Christina about how many positive things can happen in this kind of crisis. It sounds like her husband needs some support and help interpreting things as well. Your husband may offer his perspective because I am sure he has his own book to write about it. The best part of your book is the ending. These words that tramatize our lives like Cancer, aren't the monsters that they once were, they aren't so big and final at least. I hate that anyone has to face any monster. Hopefully, an excellent plan of care will be put in place. I don't think of cancer as being a disease. I won't give it that power. I think of it as situation. We have a certain mind set about diseases. Situations include us in the solutions. |

Thank you for this Timber--it was very touching and at the same time provided some needed perspective...
I'm going to get her the book, wrap it and take it to her house today. Great suggestion. |
